Organised by Uttan Vanaushadhi Sanshodhan Sanstha and Cyanofarm Research Centre in association with Vande Mataram Foundation.
On the auspicious occasion of “National Science Day” which is celebrated to commemorate the invention of the Raman Effect by the Indian physicist, Sir Chandrasekhar Venkata Raman on 28th Feb, we celebrated this day at Keshav Srushti with the students of Gokuldham, Yashodham and Lakshyadham high school in a unique way.
Basic concept of this event was to create a digital microscope where students were encouraged to use their ideas and science power under the guidance of scientist Dr. Rutwik Thengodkar with support of Ms. Deepali Thengodkar. Very basic raw material like card boards, glue, web cameras, cutter, syringe, springs, screws, battery etc. was provided to the students to create a fully functional microscope as a perfect example of best out of waste.
The event started at 9am sharp with the trail of Keshav Srushti which made the students more energetic and excited for the event. Later, Inspirational words by Dr. Rutwik made the students believe that they can be scientists for a day and even in their career where they can explore as much as possible and invent something out of the box with their creativity.
Then students were divided in 10 groups, with 5 students in each group. The groups were named after Indian scientists like Dr. C. V. Raman, Dr. Homi Bhabha, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Aryabhatta, Dr. Asima Chatterjee, Dr. Hargobind Khurana, Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay, Dr. Himmatrao Bawaskar, Dr. Prafulla Chandra Rayand, Dr. Meghnad-Saha. Each student was observed and guided by the staff of Vanaushadhi and volunteers of Vande Mataram foundation with the support of teachers from the schools.
The activity was programmed in such a way that students used their creativity, mind power and team spirit in order to find practical approach towards problem solving. The activity helped them learn implementation of their knowledge through prototyping. This workshop touched down on all important subjects of science & provided students with required boost to peruse science as their interest than just an academic subject.
As a result of the workshop, students came up with brilliant ideas for creating functional microscopes. Various samples were observed using these microscopes and the results were as good as the compound microscopes found in the market. A group that came up with best design was awarded with certificates and other students were given participation certificates to keep them motivated.
The entire event was covered by Artnest Photography and highlights of the event were shown to the students at the end.
